Default Winds of Change and Vanquishing

Does completing Winds of Change permanently change the mobs in certain explorable areas? I ask because I think the new mobs in WoC are much harder than the old Canthan mobs, so is it worth holding out on doing the quests until I get my Canthan vanquisher title?

If it's anything like WiK then the mobs should go away once WoC is finished, so it depends whether you want to wait for stages 2 and 3 to come around and then complete them.

However, since we do not know that for sure and do not know when parts 2/3 will be released I would strongly encourage people to err on the side of caution.

Once you complete the quest for an area, the mobs in that area do change from then on for that for that particular character.

So, if vqing or going for cartography, do NOT do the woc quests for a given area. Also keep in mind that some afflicted bosses will no longer appear. While it seems that they have been replaced with other bosses with the same elites, you might want to finish capping before doing woc as well.

Also, be aware that if anyone in the party has finished the woc quest for the area, it will spawn the new mobs. So if you are looking to use a high level character to help another person or account with certain quests then don't do the woc quests on that character.

Once you complete the quest for an area, the mobs in that area do change from then on for that level of that area for that particular character. So completing the nm quest for chos estate, for instance, will mean that from then on the nm explorable area will produce high level scavenger mobs instead of the low level mobs that were there before. But the explorable will still produce the original mobs in hm until the hm version of the quest is competed also.

So, if your concern is vanquishing, then you are safe completing all the quests in nm version on your vq character - you will still be able to vq in hm with the old mobs. However, if your concern is cartography without vq then I would wait to do the nm version of beginner island until you have completely mapped the whole area.

Also, be aware that if anyone in the party has finished the woc quest for the area, it will spawn the new mobs. So if you are looking to use a high level character to help another person or account with certain quests then don't do the woc quests on that character.

aAright, thanks for the great reply. I am glad I didn't do the quests on my VQ character. :P

For a long time, people complained that Hard Mode was too easy. Well, guess what folks, ANET has delivered a demo of Hell Mode with this update in the WoC HM 4-man area called Minister Cho Estate. /end dramatization

Back to topic: VQ entire noob island of Cantha before you do any WoC quest.

This is incorrect. I completed all the WoC quests in NM on my ele, and then to check I entered Shadow passage in HM and it was full of Jade Brotherhood or Am Fah (I forget). No afflicted. The old mobs are replaced when you finish the NM version of the quest in that explorable.

Ouch you are correct - I must have had one of the woc hm quests active when I went into the area before so that the afflicted for the quest spawned and I thought they were just the regular mobs spawning.

So - DO NOT DO THE QUESTS IF YOU HAVE NOT YET VQED AN AREA!

changing my old post to correct it.

I'll hijack the thread since I was wondering the same thing, but about the other Beyond GW storylines, should I VQ all of kryta before starting WiK, or are there specific zones I should VQ only since maybe they're not all affected? What about Heart of the North?

I recommend vanquishing Kryta before starting WiK. For Talmark Wilderness, however, it doesn't really matter as WiK doesn't really alter the spawns that much. Vanquishing Krytan areas in HotN as Keiran doesn't contribute to the vanquisher title, as far as I'm aware.

While nothing is known at this point, story-wise it's likely to be very different from WiK. The mantle spawns vanish because they were defeated at the battle for lion's arch. The afflicted spawns are replaced because the afflicted have been exterminated, and it's not exactly easy to un-exterminate them. While the am fah or scavengers or whatever might be replaced or nulled (no spawn) or something else in the future, the old afflicted spawns are very unlikely to return.

I was thinking it might be funny if after the WoC, they had Nick require an afflicted drop that all the people who cleared out the afflicted can't get, heh.

I might be wrong here... but it should be safe to do the nm quests and still have the old vanqs, since the areas are only altered in hm if you also do the quests in hm. So you might not have to wait with WoC till you vanquish it all... but you might want to avoid doing the same quests in hm.
Thats the impression wiki gave me anyway, not checked it as such myself yet.

@Da Kenster: if that happens Im glad that I wont be using all my chars to do WoC 1-3 chars max, then I still have 7 chars to farm afflicted on. Or people could farm a mission, eternal grove or something... there is ways around it

Not unlikely that Nicks spawns will get messed up though... recall a few times with wik where you either had to have it active or not active for him to appear, because he was only there in one version of the map. So might be best to keep a char that doesn't do WoC...

It's character-based, not account-based, so if you want to keep a certain chest-running location you'll just need a another character to do it.

Thought that at first too, but then I remembered you'd still be able to fight them in the missions, so actually, it's fine.

Vizunah Square mission is probably the best place to load up on afflicted drops anyway.

However, Nick should still be a concern, as if he's scheduled to appear in certain areas in Factions at later dates, then the altered spawns might cause him to not appear (the same way I hear the two explorable area armour crafters in Kaineng City are now missing), so that something Anet are going to have to be on the lookout for

EDIT: Ahh, didn't see Dewshine's comment there, he beat me too it. Nevermind.

Boreas Seabed explorable hasn't been included in WoC yet, so Halcyon Job should be unaffected so far.

Not really a worry of mine so I just read what wiki said, and although wiki is a friend it can be wrong or misunderstood.
